If you like to look after kids in your spare time why don’t you think about approaching the summer camps and seeing if there are any jobs that you can apply for! This is a good way to help out and earn a little extra money on the side.
A lot of the summer camps prefer to have experienced counselors on hand to help with the kids or at least somebody that has previous experience at working at similar types of camps.
You must also be 18 years of age or over, and a citizen of the United States, or at last have a work visa. But it is not unknown of for these camps to accept exchange students to apply for the position of counselor.
The role of camp counselors is not to be taken lightly. You will inevitably be a role model to the students and should be on hand in case they have any issues or problems. You will also be required to help motivate them when learning new skills. There may be times when some of the camps students need extra care such as help with their feeding or other such things.
The camps are always on the look out for people with an outdoor personality to take up the roles of facilitators. This would incorporate the teaching of the outdoor pursuits as well as the teaching of the arts and craft classes.
Other jobs that may be available at these summer camps include support staff, Nurses, lifeguards, adventure leaders and many more.
If you really do like to work with children and have a pleasant disposition then this could be right up you street.
The rate of pay for counselors and facilitators at the summer camps are generally in the region of $200 each week. This is after you get your fee lodgings and free meals so it can be quite nice to earn a little extra for doing something that you enjoy.
