Is There A Good Power Sports Distributor?

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

When you think powersports, you think motorcycles. Everybody seems to define power sports differently. Some even include go-karts in their list of powersport vehicles, while purists limit it to motorbikes. Google power sports distributor and you\’re likely to find that most of them are motorcycle dealers, so for purposes of this review, we\’ll stick with the bikes.

Naturally, those at the top were the big distributors. These were mostly the brand name distributors, with Honda heading the list. Hot on Honda\’s heels was Yamaha. Suzuki was there, too, but not as prominently.

We weren\’t interested in the individual brand names, though. We wanted a broad palette to choose from and ideally a site that gave solid, objective data about each of the brands and models of motorcycle. Failing that, a site that promoted several brands would be fine.

While they may not be entirely objective, such sites at least usually give the specs on the different models and compare their features. We usually find a bunch of sites like that, but not with powersports motorcycles. There were very few sites with general information and the ones there were seemed to think all of their readers would already know as much as they did about power sports.

Since we are not an affiliate marketer and don\’t want to sound like one, we\’re going to leave out the url and name of the only power sports distributor that we found that came close to meeting our criteria. We only do that if we have several for our readers to choose from.

Figuring that novices would be starting out with a 250cc motorbike, we looked for those first. This site had quite a few to choose from. There were three for under three thousand bucks. The cheapest of these was a Honda Rebel for alittle less than $2500 Next up the price scale was a Hyosung and a Suzuki. The site didn\’t have an engine size category and to our mind, that was a big drawback.

That was only the first disappointment for us. This distributor was the only one on page one of our search that sold a lot of motorcycles, but even it was not all that user friendly. Thinking we could find more smaller bikes for low prices, we checked their price category listings, but the lowest that went to was under ten grand. That didn\’t narrow the field enough for us.

They sold used motorcycles at this site, as well. Again, they seem to have designed their site for motorcycle enthusiasts only, because they gave us no help when it came to choosing a used bike. They listed them by year first and then gave the same limited list of options to narrow down the search.

When it was all over, we were severely disappointed. All we can say is that if you are a power sports distributor, there is room on the internet for you to make a killing if you get a could web design team to help you make a truly informative site. Be sure to have an amateur reviewer (like us!) on your team, so you don\’t blow it like the others did!
