Wicked — The Broadway Production Filled with Evil and Good

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Wicked is becoming more and more popular with its stint on Broadway. This production is based off of a book written by Gregory McGuire. It is the tale of two very close friends — Glynda and Elphaba — and what separated them and brought them to the roles they played in the Wizard of Oz. Wicked’s lyrics are done and created by Stephen Schwartz; a man who put life into every word. The very soul of the story is not lost — at all — throughout the production; in fact, the combination of actors and lyrics brings the story to life even more.

Glynda and Elphaba were good friends, as children. The story of Wicked tells of this friendship and the eventual straying of each woman to the light and the dark. Glynda, by nature, is drawn to helping the world, whereas it is nearly innate in Elphaba to sway to the evil side of living. The production of Wicked will give you the chance to get to know each of these women — intimately — and comprehend their decisions and final outcomes in the Wizard of Oz

Glynda and Elphaba experience they typical ups and downs that any relationship experiences; in this they are no different from you and your best friend. As they deal with day-to-day issues like politics and moral beliefs, you begin to see where the two are very different — internally. By the time the Wizard of Oz was written, the girls had already grown, made their choices, and strayed from each other. This tale — Wicked — will help you to understand many of their actions in the Wizard of Oz. Having the opportunity to experience this production, firsthand, will open the door to a whole new understanding of the entire story.

The story itself is very inviting; but the song, music, and dance, put with the production, brings the entire story to life. It is not possible to sit in theatre and not be completely enthralled by the soul of the tale. The cast and performers do an astonishing job bringing to story off of paper and into real life. Wicked has broken so many records, and touched the hearts of so many, that the production is touring once again, giving those who have not seen it their first chance, and others a chance to see what they might have missed.

For six years, now, the cast of Wicked has been entertaining audiences across the world. This particular Broadway production has made record sales as the story, and the way it has been put together, is astonishing. You will never understand an old tale as you will this on after watching it live, on stage. Seattle Washington and Wichita, Kansas are only two of many stops scheduled for Wicked; smaller locations will even host the production with limited showings.

Wicked Is Sweeping Audiences Off Their Feet

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

One of the most beloved musicals, on Broadway, is Wicked. This production has been awing audiences for seven years now, and there is no reason to believe the production will be coming to an end any time soon. During this time, the musical also went on tour to give audiences, across the world, a chance to witness its magic.

Whether you live in California, Texas, Ohio, New York, Missouri, or even London, you will get the chance to see Wicked on stage — if you haven’t already. Wicked has been ranked as #1 on ticket sales, across the country, for some time now. This, along with show dates, does not appear to be slowing down in the least bit. Tickets are selling like hot cakes, just as they have for years.

The Wizard of Oz is one of those stories that we have all head of — young and old. Wicked is another part of this same story. Some say Wicked came before, and others say it came after. Regardless, this story gives audiences insight on the good witch of the North (Glenda) and the wicked witch of the West (Elphaba). These two ladies were friends, when they were younger. Wicked tells of their friendship, along with the hardships they faced growing up. And even tells of the event that pushes Elphaba to the dark magic. It fills you in on the happenings of these two witches before Dorothy came into their lives.

Stephen Schwartz, at first, received very negative reviews while in New York. Upon first arrival, on the live stage, the production had to undergo many changes to make it what it is today. While these changes did not make all of the bad media go away, it did lighten the load quite a bit. It didn’t take long for reviews to turn for the better, and for audiences to start snatching up tickets as soon as they were available. Ticket sales began to soar and Wicked became number one before critics could re-critique the production.

Winnie Holzman is the author of the book that first inspired Stephen Schwartz to put this production together. His creativity and imagination helped him to see into the story and put together such an amazing portrayal of it. His three Grammy’s and three Academy awards are proof that the man is amazing when it comes to putting a story together for all to enjoy; Wicked is just another masterpiece. This production is becoming so popular that additional venues and dates may have to be added again; tickets are getting difficult to come by.
